Description
The Swim Coach position at the Greater Austin YMCA is the cornerstone of our community's pursuit of excellence, camaraderie, and personal growth. Your role as a coach transcends the pool's edge; you are a beacon of inspiration, guiding swimmers to unlock their full potential and achieve greatness both in and out of the water.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
- Conduct regular swim clinics focusing on stroke technique, starts, turns, and other aspects of competitive swimming.
- Design and lead pool and land training sessions to improve swimmers' strength, endurance, and overall performance.
- Provide individualized feedback and instruction to swimmers to help them achieve their goals and improve their skills.
- Collaborate with other coaches to plan and coordinate practice schedules, meet entries, and team events.
- Maintain a safe and positive training environment, ensuring all YMCA safety guidelines and protocols are followed.
- Communicate effectively with swimmers, parents, and staff members to provide program updates, schedule changes, and feedback.
Education & Experience:
- Previous experience as a swim coach, preferably in a competitive swimming environment.
- Certification as a USA Swim Coach or equivalent credential highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of swim training principles, stroke mechanics, and competitive strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire swimmers of all ages.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate team practices and events.
- Passion for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle through the sport of swimming.
