The Teacher, APE will conduct thorough evaluations that determine an educational need for adapted physical education services through special education and appropriate recommendations that translate to positive learning outcomes for the student. The Incumbent will provide targeted, achievement-based program interventions that will assist students in maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle in the educational setting in compliance with ARD/IEP document. Manage and maintain accurate individual special education records relevant to Adapted Physical Education services in the educational setting.
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
Valid Texas Special Education Teaching Certificate.
Valid Texas Physical Education Teaching Certificate.
Proficiency in Windows Operating System as well as Microsoft Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Excellent skills in communicating information and ideas both verbally and in writing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate and conduct evaluations for (APE) as part of a student’s Full Individual Evaluation based upon current assessment best practices that are consistent with laws, rules, and regulations according to federal, state, and local policies / procedures.
Compile and interpret students' evaluation results using performance based assessments, skilled observations, checklists, histories, interviews, along with information from teachers and parents, to determine the educational need for (APE) services.
Collaborate with educators to develop Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) based on knowledge of grade level physical education content standards, student need, evaluation data and present levels of academic achievement and functional performance.
Provide professional development training to staff regarding strategies / techniques, safety, feasibility, specific individual characteristics that influence motor movement skill function / acquisition, and/or specialized equipment / materials / supplies that support student IEP implementation as the student accesses physical education content standards appropriate for their grade level.
