Description
The Middle School Track & Field Coach is responsible for leading and developing student-athletes in grades 5-8 in a positive and structured environment. The coach will plan and conduct effective practices, teach fundamental techniques for various events, promote teamwork and sportsmanship, and ensure athletes are prepared for competitions. This position is ideal for someone passionate about track & field and dedicated to mentoring young athletes in their development.
Major Areas of Responsibility/Specific Duties:
- Develop age-appropriate training sessions that improve speed, endurance, strength, and technique.
- Provide event-specific coaching for sprints, middle-distance races, relays, jumps, and throws.
- Emphasize injury prevention, warm-ups, and cooldown routines.
- Ensure athletes are prepared for meets by setting realistic goals and strategies.
- Manage meet lineups and relay team assignments based on performance and development.
- Encourage and support athletes during competitions.
- Foster a positive team culture focused on effort, respect, and sportsmanship.
- Teach life skills such as goal setting, perseverance, and teamwork.
- Provide individual feedback to help athletes improve.
Qualities & Qualifications:
- Experience in track & field as a coach or former athlete.
- Knowledge of fundamental techniques in sprints, relays, jumps, and throws.
- Ability to work with middle school athletes of varying skill levels.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred).
