De Anza College Athletics is committed to guiding diverse students towards success in academics, athletic competition and citizenship, by providing opportunities where students have access to resources in their development. The full-time Track & Field and Cross Country Head Coach/PE Instructor will work directly with student-athletes, fellow faculty, coaches, and staff to promote all facets of student success and wellness.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Course topic areas are typical of lower division undergraduate work in Physical Education and Kinesiology, which include: sport related classes for team sports; and activity classes/lecture classes for Kinesiology majors and non-majors/general student populations.
- As head coach, the selected candidate will lead and assist in all aspects of the Track & Field and Cross Country programs, including recruiting, compliance, practice planning, budgeting, traveling, conditioning, fundraising, statistics reporting, equipment purchasing, and selection of assistant coaches and volunteers; and other duties associated with the position.
- Secondary duties include student-athlete recruitment; act as liaison between the college and professional and/or educational organizations and community advisory groups; develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum in the subject matter of expertise in both the laboratory and lecture where appropriate. This should include the integration of technology for instructional purposes in both the activity/laboratory and lecture where appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
- Master's degree in any physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science or adaptive physical education OR a Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND a Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR the equivalent.
