Varsity Boys’ Baseball Head Coach

This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes to develop the skills, attitude, and disposition to become a successful baseball player. Inherent in this job are the skills necessary to develop disciplined athletes, effective teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in baseball.

Responsibilities:

• Submits weekly practice plans for all practices and uses those plans to develop the athlete's skill set.
• Creates practice and game schedules in conjunction with the Athletic Director (AD) and communicates said schedule to the athletes.
• Ensures the proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment, uniforms, and locker assignments and updates inventories before and after the season.
• Travels with athletes on the team bus both to and from games.
• Secures athletic office, weight room, locker room, and gymnasium at the conclusion of all games and stays with athletes at the conclusion of all games and practices until parents have picked them up.
• Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
• Review weekly eligibility list to ensure that all student-athletes are academically eligible.
• Ensures all athletes are in the appropriate physical condition from the beginning to the end of the season.
• Models and instills the values of sportsmanship and fair play to all athletes and enforces consequences for breach of such standards.
• Maintains a safe environment and facilities for all athletes at all times.
• Submits athlete rosters to the AD and principal within one week before the start of the first game and follows up with any subsequent changes made to the roster.

Requirements:

• Illinois state teaching license or coaching certification through the American Sports Education Program.
• Experience coaching youth, high school, or collegiate baseball (or comparable experience).
• Background in skill development with a vision of how to grow and sustain a high school baseball program.
• Maintain current certification in CPR/Emergency Cardiac Care.
