Description
A High School Head Coach must be committed to the personal development of each player on the roster. This includes developing the academic, social, emotional, and athletic aspects of each student athlete in the environment of a faith-based school. It also includes accurately evaluating each player’s skill level and personal learning style, coaching them according to their level and learning style, and teaching them maneuvers and techniques relating to the position in which the player is assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directly supervise volunteers and assigned personnel.
- Ensure that all assistant, volunteer, and sub-varsity coaches work together toward a common goal within the program and provide unity with a structured feeder system.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect student athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports.
- In accordance with student code of conduct and student handbook, apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property.
- Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation at all times.
- Oversee the process of cleaning, repairing and storing all athletic equipment.
- Create and facilitate an off season athlete development plan that includes, but is not limited to, a strength and conditioning program.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Several years of successful high school varsity coaching experience at both the assistant and head coaching level is required.
- Several years of successful coaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
- CAP 1 or 2 Certification.
- Experience working with students in a diverse, multicultural academic setting.
- General knowledge of effective and safe coaching techniques and procedures.
- Knowledge of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and the NCAA Eligibility rules/regulations.
- Knowledge of intercollegiate athletic programs.
