Description
Examples of Duties:
- Create a positive and safe learning environment where the youth learn sport specific skills with proper technique through your instruction.
- Serve as a mentor and role model to the youth.
- Facilitate challenging but fun practices that encourage teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Cheer on the team and give instruction on game day.
- Communicate program information professionally and promptly to parents and players throughout the season.
- Communicate with the Recreation Programmer and/or Program Coordinator.
- Attend a pre-season coaches meeting.
- Attend a non-sport specific coaches training.
- Hold a pre-season parent’s meeting.
Qualifications:
- Successfully complete the volunteer coach application and pass a background check.
- Become certified with the American Sports Education Program (ASEP).
- Knowledge of the game, ability to demonstrate proper technique.
- Effectively lead a group of youth.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with other coaches, City of Appleton Employees, spectators, and the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Exude enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
