Job Overview
This Director of Athletics oversees the college’s intercollegiate Athletics Department and all of its corresponding programs and events. The Director of Athletics provides strategic direction for the Athletics Department, ensuring excellence in student-athlete success, compliance, fundraising, and community engagement. This position also coordinates Athletics public relations activities and programs for the college. Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct supervision for coaches and associated support staff in the Intercollegiate Athletics Department;
  • Serve as the primary contact with sanctioning athletic organizations.
  • Manage departmental activities, advertising, and fundraising.
  • Function as the liaison for sports media information and community relations.
  • Responsible for the interface of intercollegiate athletic programs with media and community entities.
  • Develop and implement athletic conduct code/alcohol and other drug policies.
  • Oversee insurance issues related to athletic programs and athletes’ injuries.
  • Develop and maintain programs and individual conduct standards for student athletes, coaches, and associated support personnel.
  • Develop and administer athletic budgets; investigate the feasibility of modifying program sports and/or facilities.
  • Coordinate scheduling of games, tournaments, events, etc, and associated travel and game management duties.
  • Compose and file required federal, state and/or sanctioning organization (ie, NJCAA) reports pertaining to the college’s intercollegiate athletic programs.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in sports administration or a related field, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience as an Athletic Director, Assistant/Associate Athletic Director, or progressive experience in Athletics administration, OR a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years experience in the field of study and work experience as previously listed.
  • Knowledge of the role of intercollegiate athletics within the community colleges’ missions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to adhere to NJCAA and NIRA rules and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy with Google Suite applications, Microsoft Office Suite software, and integrated administrative computing software.
