Job Overview
The Sutton High School Athletic Department is seeking a dynamic, knowledgeable, and dedicated Varsity Cross Country Head Coach to lead and build upon our successful Cross Country program. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering athletic excellence, teaching valuable skills, and promoting a positive and inclusive team culture. The Head Coach will oversee the team’s development, manage the meet and practice schedule, and work collaboratively with players, parents, and administration to create a successful and positive experience for all involved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement training programs to improve team performance, individual skills, and overall fitness.
- Lead and manage all aspects of the Varsity Cross Country team, including practices, meets, and team events.
- Coach players in team and individual strategy, and sportsmanship while encouraging teamwork and character development.
- Organize and facilitate pre-season conditioning, practices, and team-building activities.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, and school staff about schedules, expectations, and progress.
- Manage meet day logistics, including preparation, and supervision.
- Monitor the academic progress of athletes and ensure a balance between athletics and academics.
- Uphold and enforce school, district, and league policies and procedures.
- Prior coaching experience in cross country or track, preferably at the high school level (head coaching experience is preferred).
- Knowledge of distance running strategies, and training routines
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate athletes to achieve their potential on and off the field.
- CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain before the start of the season).
