Job Overview
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards, physical fitness, hygiene, and good health. Essential Functions:
  • Develops and administers Physical Education classes consistent with school and Diocesan goals and objectives.
  • Teaches and develops knowledge, skills, and abilities in physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports,
  • Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and social skills.
  • Provides a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Gives appropriate feedback to students regarding progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by school procedures and applicable laws.
  • Assists in coordinating extra-curricular activities, including student assembles and athletic events.
Responsibilities:
  • Create an effective learning environment through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and activity/learning centers.
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
  • Assign and grade class-work and homework.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive classroom environment.
