Independence High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator to teach Physical Education and Health to students in grades 9 through 12. The ideal candidate will promote lifelong fitness and wellness, foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and contribute to the broader school culture through collaboration and engagement with students, families, and staff.

Responsibilities:

1. Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in Physical Education and Health aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards.
2. Promote student knowledge and practice of healthy lifestyles, fitness, mental health awareness, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, and personal safety.
3. Implement a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learners and promote student growth.
4. Assess student learning using both formative and summative assessments; use data to guide instruction.
5. Maintain a safe, supportive, and well-managed classroom and gymnasium environment.
6. Collaborate with colleagues on cross-curricular initiatives, interdisciplinary units, and school-wide health and wellness events.
7. Participate in IEP/504 meetings as appropriate and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
8. Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to support student success.

Qualifications:

1. Valid Ohio teaching license in Physical Education and Health (Grades 9–12 or appropriate multi-age licensure).
2. Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in physical education, health education, and adolescent wellness.
3. Strong classroom management and communication skills.
4. Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.
5. Ability to integrate technology and instructional tools effectively.
6. Previous experience teaching at the high school level preferred.
