Job Overview
Independence High School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered educator to teach Physical Education and Health to students in grades 9 through 12. The ideal candidate will promote lifelong fitness and wellness, foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment, and contribute to the broader school culture through collaboration and engagement with students, families, and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction in Physical Education and Health aligned to Ohio’s Learning Standards.
- Promote student knowledge and practice of healthy lifestyles, fitness, mental health awareness, nutrition, substance abuse prevention, and personal safety.
- Implement a variety of instructional strategies to accommodate diverse learners and promote student growth.
- Assess student learning using both formative and summative assessments; use data to guide instruction.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and well-managed classroom and gymnasium environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues on cross-curricular initiatives, interdisciplinary units, and school-wide health and wellness events.
- Participate in IEP/504 meetings as appropriate and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to support student success.
Qualifications:
- Valid Ohio teaching license in Physical Education and Health (Grades 9–12 or appropriate multi-age licensure).
- Demonstrated knowledge of current best practices in physical education, health education, and adolescent wellness.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all students.
- Ability to integrate technology and instructional tools effectively.
- Previous experience teaching at the high school level preferred.
