Job Overview
The Physical Education and Health Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment where students develop the knowledge, skills, and habits to lead healthy, active lives. This role combines instruction in both physical fitness and health education, aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate physical education and health lessons for students in accordance with Indiana Academic Standards.
- Promote physical literacy by teaching motor skills, movement patterns, and physical fitness concepts.
- Provide instruction on key health topics such as nutrition, mental/emotional health, substance abuse prevention, human development, and personal safety.
- Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages student participation and sportsmanship.
- Design assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and behavior.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student learning and school initiatives.
- Uphold safety protocols for physical activities and ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Participate in professional development activities and stay current on best practices in health and physical education.
Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana Teaching License in Physical Education and Health Education, or eligibility to obtain.
- Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Health Education, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of physical education pedagogy and adolescent health issues.
- Ability to manage a dynamic classroom and maintain student engagement.
- Effective communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
