Job Overview
The Athletic Director provides leadership in planning, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of interscholastic athletic programs for the middle and high schools. The Athletic Director promotes extracurricular athletic activities that fosters skill development, understanding of sports, and appreciation for a variety of athletic activities and programs, teaming, and sportsmanship for students and adults.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Valid Washington State teaching certificate required.
- Minimum three years of successful coaching experience.
- Prior experience as a school district athletic director, experience in a preparation program, or degree in sports/athletic management preferred.
- Valid Wa State driver’s license with a clear driving record.
- Successful WA State fingerprint/background check.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide the leadership and vision for successful and competitive athletics.
- Work with school principal and district HR to post, screen, interview and recommend coaches for hiring.
- Work with principal to conduct evaluations of coaches at the end of each sport season.
- Observe team practices and game events to develop evaluation documentation Support and mentor coaching staff.
- Suggest appropriate professional development for coaching staff as needed.
- Assure that coaches have practice and game plans/syllabus and are being implemented Conduct seasonal coaching orientations to ensure expectations are clearly communicated to all coaching staff.
- Develop and maintain athletic department budget in coordination with supervisors and district business office accounting including projected revenues and expenditures. Follow proper purchasing procedures prior to making purchases. Communicate purchasing process to coaches and monitor that the proper purchasing process is followed ie., approvals prior to orders placed.
- Represent the district at all league events.
