Job Overview

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' physical skills and abilities, strength, agility, poise, coordination, and teamwork; to develop students' understanding of the importance of exercise to physical and mental well-being; and to motivate students to work towards physical fitness, hygiene, and good health.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develops and administers Physical Education classes consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  2. Teaches knowledge of, and develops skills and abilities in, physical fitness, rhythm and dance, coordination and agility, exercise, and sports,
  3. Develops students' concepts in leadership, teamwork, responsibility and social skills; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and appropriate feedback regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
  4. Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in physical educational activities, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs.
  5. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  6. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  7. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  8. Ensures that students conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

Qualifications:

  1. Massachusetts State Certification as a Physical Education Teacher.
  2. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
  3. Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  4. Masters Degree preferred.
  5. Experience: Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
  6. Licensed by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in required field.
  7. A demonstrated belief that each and every student can achieve at high levels.
  8. A demonstrated dedication to lifelong learning, reflection, and continued personal and professional growth.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
