Job Overview
The Head Women’s Softball Coach is a twelve-month salaried position, reporting to the Vice President for Athletics and Community Engagement. The Head Coach provides leadership for the day-to-day, as well as the strategic development of the women’s softball team. The coach should provide leadership as well as serve as a role model to student athletes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership for the recruiting and retention of quality student athletes.
- Coach and teach skills and tactics necessary for a successful softball program.
- Ability to recruit and retain quality student athletes.
- Successfully create a positive team environment where student-athletes can learn vital life skills through sport.
- Develop, maintain, and elevate competitive varsity teams.
- Follow all Millikin University, CCIW and NCAA rules and policies.
- Coaching/teaching skills and tactics necessary for a successful softball program.
- Ability to positively interact with media, alumni and friends of the University.
- Conduct camps and clinics to promote the University and the women’s softball program.
- Adhere to fiscal responsibility related to institutional budget and fundraising.
- Other job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Five to seven years of successful coaching experience preferred.
- Exemplary coaching experience marked with not only winning success, but also producing academically successfully student athletes.
- Well developed administrative skills, including day-to-day operations and budget management.
- Experience with community relations, fundraising and related activities.
- Exceptional communication skills required.
- A thorough understanding and commitment to the NCAA Division III rules, regulations and philosophy.
- An understanding and appreciation for the CCIW is preferred.
- Experience as a player and/or coach in the sport of Softball.
