Assistant Athletic Trainer (ATH TRAINER 3 HX)

Under general supervision of the Assoc Athletics Director, Sports Medicine and team physicians the position will use skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices to deliver customized athletic training focused on injury prevention, management, rehabilitation, and optimizing athletic performance. Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain results. Administers first aid to athletes.
Provides manual therapy applicable to orthopedic and sports medicine. Coordinate high-level comprehensive medical care for UC Davis intercollegiate student athletes. Share responsibility with sports medicine unit services for teams as assigned by the Asst Athletics Director, Sports Medicine.
Communicate student athlete progress and status to coaches, physicians, strength and conditioning staff and supervisor. Attend annual team meeting prior to athletic season to communicate education and policy surrounding concussion, sickle cell trait, use of supplements, NCAA drug testing, ADHD, HIPAA, and crisis response training. Initiate expectations meeting with assigned coaching staff to review emergency action plans, policies and procedures and other information as needed.

Minimum Qualifications – For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
Current certification and in good standing with the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
Bachelor’s degree in an athletic training related field.
No Minimum Work Experience required.
Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biomechanics as related to musculoskeletal injuries, and basic skill in progressing therapeutic exercise techniques and functional programs, independently or in consultation with team physicians and or external health clinicians.
Basic skills to perform clinical and sideline evaluation of injury, and to design and implement basic treatment programs and ability to apply protective wraps, tape, and bracing devices.
Basic knowledge of common systemic illnesses and management which may interfere with a student-athlete’s athletic participation.
Good organizational and interpersonal skills needed to work with a diverse client group and the ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive matters involving athletic injuries and treatments.
Basic knowledge of medical record management and the ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in athletic training or related field. 3 years of experience or 2 years of experience Div I.
Experience working in an NCAA Division 1 athletics program Strong thorough skills associated with athletic injury prevention and the administration of therapeutic modalities, devices, and rehabilitation techniques, as well as of first-aid, athletic equipment, and injury assessment and treatment.
Strong manual therapy skills applicable to orthopedics and sports medicine.
Strong ability to organize and prioritize work assignments and complete assignments within required timelines. Current knowledge of applicable rules and standards of departmental, university, affiliated athletic conferences, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as other associations and agencies to which the campus adheres, and always avoid all violations of these rules and standards.
Strong ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with others, including athletes, team physicians, faculty, staff, and others in the athletic department with strong skills necessary to communicate verbally and in writing for clear and concise business correspondence and reports.
Skills to teach clinical rehabilitative skills to undergraduate sports medicine interns.

Salary or Pay Range: $69,600/annually – $124,200/annually – Please note: This position is subject to a departmental budgeted salary of $69,600/annually; commensurate with education and experience.
