Assistant Coach

Summary of Purpose
Support the Head Coach by assisting with various aspects of the Team.
Typical Duties
This description is intended to indicate the types of duties and responsibilities requested of the employee assigned this title. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the duties and responsibilities that may be required:
Help plan and facilitate practices
Assist in recruiting incoming athletes
Assist in rule and regulation compliance
Assist in ordering inventory and care of equipment, clothing and uniforms used by the team
Assist in collecting progress reports and monitoring academic progress and study halls
Travel to away games and possibly drive vans to away games
Assist in collecting travel receipts and turning in travel paperwork
Keep, when necessary, and enter statistics as directed by the Head Coach
Continue to assume all assistant coaching responsibilities both in and out of season
Attend Athletic Staff meetings and Coaches’ training as required
Communicate regularly with the athletic staff informing them of any concerns or issues including roster, practice or game changes for home and away games
Possibly help host and support/promote the program as opportunities arise including, but not limited to: camps, tournaments, college events, community service events, fundraising opportunities, and/or specific meetings upon request
Knowledge and Skills Required
Become familiar of the MCCAA (Michigan Community College Athletic Association) and NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) rules
Must become familiar with the Oakland Community College Athletic Handbook, packets and paperwork
Prior playing experience in the sport that the applicant will be coaching
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office
Minimum Education and Experience
High School Diploma/GED (General Equivalency Diploma) AND two (2) years as Head or Assistant Coach of a High School and/or AAU (Amateur Athletic Union)/Club Team or one (1) year of college coaching experience
