Summary:

The Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach works closely with the Men’s Basketball Head Coach to give direction to, coach and coordinate the activities of the men’s basketball program and performs various instructional and athletic administrative duties to meet the College’s needs.

Responsibilities:

The Men’s Basketball Assistant Coach is responsible for working with the Men’s Basketball Head Coach in the organization of the men’s basketball program and various administrative duties within the athletics department. Essential responsibilities include assistant coaching, recruiting, off-season functions, and liaison functions. Other responsibilities include instructional functions, athletic administrative functions, athletic marketing and sports information functions, and athletic academic support functions.

Assist Head Coach in the following Coaching duties:

Implement practice sessions and a Strength & Conditioning program

Provide strategic and tactical direction of team during game situations

Review, edit, collect and share game video/Synergy

Maintain inventory and provide equipment support for athletes

Recruiting

Identify talent needs for program

Evaluate and contact perspective athletes and parents/guardians

Prepare and make offers in accordance with NJCAA rules and regulations

Interact with high school and college coaches to assist with athlete’s transitions into Casper College and into other intercollegiate programs

Athletic academic advising and oversight

Monitor athletes’ class attendance

Provide academic advising for athletes and coordinate and supervise team study sessions

Track academic progress toward degree completion by athletes and develop and implement an academic support system for athletes

Assist Head Coach in providing academic eligibility and success information to the Athletic Department and campus administration as needed to comply with the NJCAA rules and state and federal legislative requirements

Off-Season functions

Develop and implement off-season conditioning programs

Assist Head Coach in planning and running team and individual camps

Track athlete involvement with campus and community activities

Maintain regular contact with athletes

Travel / recruiting

Liaison functions

Maintain collaborative and positive working relationships within the athletic, administrative, and faculty areas along with other related college support services

Maintain collaborative and positive relationships with the Booster Club, college community, and community at large

Participate in fundraising events for the Athletic Department

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

Minimum of 2 years prior coaching experience at a High School varsity, collegiate, or professional level

Excellent decision making skills

Excellent organizational and planning skills

Strong communication skills and a commitment to developing the Men’s Basketball program

CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire

Computer proficiency for word processing, email, film editing, social media and spreadsheets

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Valid motor vehicle license at the time of hire and must obtain a Wyoming driver’s license within 30 days of hire. Must maintain insurability under the College’s insurance plan.

Desired Qualifications:

Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in a field related to athletics or sports administration

At least 2 years prior coaching experience at the collegiate level

Recruiting experience at the collegiate level

Proven player development experience

Proven ability to support student-athlete academic achievement standards and processes

Work Environment:

Typical work environment is a classroom, office, and athletics facility setting requiring normal safety precautions. Position involves work on different surfaces and on other fitness environments while coaching and training situations with student-athletes. Work is usually performed during the normal workday, however, early morning, late evening and weekend work is required. Short periods of time will be spent outdoors traveling between campus buildings in various weather conditions. Frequent overnight travel during the week and on weekends, monthly, throughout the year. Noise levels are usually minimal in office setting, but can be moderate to loud at sporting events.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to participate in and lead practices and workouts and to demonstrate appropriate skills and techniques to be used by the athletes. Must be able to visually monitor athletes and use a loud voice to communicate with athletes. Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling, and moving equipment/boxes up to 50 lbs.
