Be a part of a Sports medicine department in the CAA conference. Stony Brook is Division I institution and FCS for football. The position is a full time 12 month. Great state benefits with health care, dental, vision and retirement.
You will be part of a staff of 12 ATCs and 2 mental health counselor. You also have the resources of 4 orthopedic doctors, 1 gen med doctor , chiropractors, acupuncturist, and a massage therapist that come in weekly. Access to a various specialists being part of the Stony Brook hospital system.
The primary goal of the athletic training staff is to provide health care for the student-athlete competing at the intercollegiate level for Stony Brook University. The Assistant Athletic Trainer is supervised by the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine and works under the direction of the Head Team Physician.
Brief Description of Duties:
This position is an Assistant Athletic Trainer within a Division I program which will provide health care for student-athletes and will report to the Associate AD for Sports Medicine. Responsible for using judgment and discretion in the prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries and illnesses for student-athletes. Educates student-athletes on wellness, professional health and wellbeing. Direct clinical instruction and supervision is provided for master students in the Athletic Training Education Program to facilitate completion of their clinical education requirements.
Student Athlete Health Care:
Provide athletic training services to maintain the well-being of student-athletes.
Responsible for the management of catastrophic and life threatening injury at athletic practices or events.
Oversee daily operation procedures for athletic training facilities, supervises athletic facilities, equipment, and conditions to minimize the risks of injury.
Provide pre and post-practice/game treatments, educates student-athletes on injuries and preventative techniques, evaluates and manage injuries with referrals, surgery, and follow up care.
Athletic Training Administration:
Maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records, update and manage sport practice/game schedule, coordinate PPE’s and annual paperwork, plan referrals to team physicians and specialists, conduct inventory of all supplies and equipment, coordinate maintenance of facility and equipment, conduct statistical analysis of the facility operation (i.e.: injuries, treatments, etc.), and perform specific administrative duties as assigned.
Schedule Coordination:
Communicate with administrators, coaches, student-athletes, parents, physicians, and other allied health professionals.
Staff Supervision:
Supervise athletic training students in the Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) as a preceptor.
Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
