Provides comprehensive healthcare to student athletes including evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to return athletes to a competitive performance level.
Major Duties
Oversees medical coverage for assigned sports teams. Coordinates and attends weekly physician visits for student-athletes.
Communicates with others in the department on matters regarding the health and well-being of student-athletes with the ability to exercise authority on these topics.
Meets with prospective student-athletes and their parents during campus visits and assists with medical evaluations during recruiting. Assists with medical hardship waivers and medical disqualifications.
Provides practice, home game, and travel coverage with assigned teams. Coordinates coverage and scheduling for summer and non-traditional conditioning sessions.
Completes administrative duties such as maintaining and tracking inventory and medical records. Submits insurance claims to an athletic insurance coordinator. Assists in scheduling and communicating annual pre-participation physical examination for incoming student-athletes.
Completes required continuing education requirements for professional development to maintain professional certification and licensure requirements. Coordinates and instructs medical emergency training for coaching and administrative staff.
Assists with the coordination and administration of institutional drug testing.
Provides secondary medical coverage for high risk sport competitions.

Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification ( NATA BOC ).
First Aid/ CPR / AED certification.
American Red Cross Training Instructor certification or the ability to obtain certification within the probationary period.
Michigan Athletic Trainer license or ability to obtain licensure by hire date.
Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
Desired Qualifications
One year’s relevant experience.
Experience at NCAA Division 1 collegiate department.
