About the Role

IDEA Public Charter School is seeking a highly organized, proactive, and student-centered Athletics & Activities Coordinator to lead and manage the school’s extracurricular programming. This role is critical to ensuring that students have access to high-quality, well-structured athletic teams and enrichment activities that build engagement, school pride, and personal development.

The Coordinator will oversee all aspects of athletics and student activities—from scheduling and logistics to student participation and staff management—while ensuring programs are safe, well-run, and aligned with the school’s mission and expectations. This is a fast-paced, execution-heavy role that requires strong systems, attention to detail, and a relentless focus on student experience and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

Athletics Program Management

Oversee the full athletics program, including team scheduling, game logistics, transportation, facilities, and equipmentEnsure all athletic events are well-organized, safe, and professionally executedCoordinate with coaches to ensure high-quality practices and strong team cultureMonitor student-athlete eligibility, including attendance, academics, and behaviorStudent Activities & Engagement

Design and manage a robust extracurricular program, including clubs, events, and student activitiesIncrease student participation in activities and ensure equitable access across grade levelsPlan and execute school events (e.g., spirit weeks, assemblies, showcases, competitions)Track and analyze student engagement data to inform improvementsStaff & Coach Management

Recruit, onboard, and manage coaches and activity sponsorsSet clear expectations for performance and accountabilityConduct regular check-ins and provide feedback to ensure program qualityOperations & Logistics

Manage schedules for practices, games, and activities with precision and efficiencyOversee budgets, purchasing, and inventory for athletics and activitiesEnsure compliance with league rules, school policies, and safety requirementsCoordinate supervision plans to ensure proper coverage at all eventsEquipment & Inventory Management

Maintain accurate, up-to-date inventories of all athletic equipment, uniforms, and activity-related materialsEstablish and enforce clear systems for equipment distribution, collection, and accountability (e.g., sign-out procedures, end-of-season returns)Conduct regular audits to ensure all equipment is accounted for and in good conditionCoordinate the cleaning, repair, and replacement of equipment as neededManage uniform cycles, including sizing, ordering, and re-collectionOversee storage spaces to ensure they are organized, secure, and accessiblePlan ahead to ensure all teams and activities have the necessary equipment well in advance of the season or eventWork with school leadership to develop and manage budgets for equipment and suppliesStudent Accountability & Culture

Enforce eligibility requirements tied to attendance, academics, and behaviorPartner with school leaders to ensure extracurriculars reinforce a strong school cultureUse participation as a lever to improve attendance and student engagement

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree requiredExperience managing athletics, student activities, or school-based programs strongly preferredStrong organizational and project management skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentCommitment to working with students in an urban school setting

Work Hours: Hours can vary, but in general, the hours are 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM during the school year and 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM during the summer months.
