Description:

The Duquesne Athletics Digital Media Graduate Assistant assists with the overall production of creative content for the department, including:

1. creating compelling and engaging marketing content for social media,

2. assist with social media content planning and implementation for all sports,

3. capturing photo/video at home athletics events and practices

4. editing and contributing to a weekly coach’s show that airs on SportsNet Pittsburgh,

The ideal graduate assistant would possess a strong base knowledge of editing techniques while expressing an eagerness to learn about the many facets of media production. The position comes with a stipend and the expectation to work 25 hours per week (a combination of office hours and game day responsibilities).

Responsibilities:

• Produce highlight packages

• Assist with the regionally broadcast, weekly Coach’s Show (set/strike assistance,
camera operation, and provide editing support to the Assistant Director of Creative Content & Productions)

• Aid in the production and editing of media content for all Duquesne athletic teams
• Research and contribute to social media content calendar

• Attend and actively contribute to weekly Creative Media Team meetings

• Capture and archive gameday cinematic content

• Perform related duties as assigned

– Ability to problem solve, manage multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines, and prioritize work

– Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

– Strong desire to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities

– Ability to receive feedback from colleagues to ensure well-thought-out and executed plans

– Willingness to work extended hours beyond the typical business day, nights and weekends throughout the academic year

Expected Skills:

• Proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite with a strong focus in Premiere Pro

• Knowledge of basic DSLR Camera operations and sports videography/ photography

• Knowledge of lighting techniques and their application

Qualifications

– Bachelor’s degree in a related field (digital media, event production, video editing/production)

– A portfolio that exhibits editing, production and lighting techniques (NO ONE WILL BE CONSIDERED WITHOUT A PORTFOLIO)

– Enrollment in a graduate degree program with preference given to students enrolled in the Media Department (Duquesne Media will fund up to six (6) credit hours in the fall and spring semesters)

– Strong interpersonal, creative and communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate in writing

– Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and
regulations

Conditions of Employment

– Complete 25 hours of office work per week

– A commitment of two years and must be available during breaks (10-month appointments each year from August 1 – May 30 with the opportunity for summer work hours)

– Appointment is based on acceptance into a Duquesne University Master’s Program

Up to six (6) credit hours per semester will be paid for by Duquesne Media, if admitted to the MFA Program in Media Arts and Technology
A stipend will be provided for both the fall and spring semesters by Duquesne Athletics

– Maintain a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5

– Maintain full-time enrollment in a master’s program

– Assistantship begins on August 1, 2026, and concludes on May 31, 2027 (contingent upon a one-year renewal). Should a GA leave sooner the stipend will be pro-rated to reflect the actual date of departure.

– GA must seek managerial approval to participate in academic-related programs external to the athletic department (internships, part-time jobs, etc.)

– Outside employment is acceptable but cannot interfere with GA responsibilities. It is recommended to discuss any external employment with a manager before committing to the role.
