Job Summary

The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for the
leadership, management, and administration of the NCAA Division I
Women’s Basketball program. This position ensures strict compliance
with all NCAA, conference, and University policies; fosters
academic and competitive excellence; supports student-athlete
well-being; manages program staff; and represents the University
with professionalism and integrity. The Head Coach plays an
essential role in promoting the mission, values, and strategic
goals of the Department of Athletics and University.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Team Management/Culture: Provide overall
leadership and administration of the Women’s Basketball program,
including strategic planning and implementation of short- and
long-term program goals.
Academic Oversight and Student-Athlete Development/Welfare:
Support and uphold academic standards related to recruiting,
eligibility, and ongoing academic progress of
student-athletes.
Competitive Success and Recruiting: Develop and maintain a
competitive schedule annually, subject to approval by the Director
of Athletics or designee.
Oversight of Coaching Personnel: Hire and provide direct
supervision to two (or more) Assistant Coaches, including assigning
responsibilities, overseeing daily coaching activities, and
ensuring alignment with program goals.
Financial and Operational/Administrative Management: Prepare,
manage, and operate the program’s budget within allocated
resources.
Fundraising, Community/University Engagement & Alumni
Relations: Represent the program and University professionally with
media, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, students, and community
organizations.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and
qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal
equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp
Summary Range for this position is $16,125 – $24,188 per
month.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, with the
ability to ensure program integrity, compliance, and institutional
accountability. Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience,
including the ability to effectively manage assistant coaches,
support staff, student-athletes, and day-to-day program operations.
Demonstrated coaching and recruiting success at the collegiate
level. Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal
skills, with the capacity to represent the program and university
in a professional and positive manner. Experience supporting
student-athlete development, including mentoring, academic support
coordination, and fostering an environment that prioritizes student
well-being and holistic growth. Developing and delivering
multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the
unique needs of different audiences; Ability to collaborate
positively to effectively drive toward organizational goals.

Consistently achieve results, even under tough circumstances and
thrive in fast-paced, high pressure environments. Experience
cultivating community partnerships, engaging in fundraising
efforts, or participating in outreach activities that strengthen
program visibility and support. Ability to communicate with an
ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to
follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines
including but not limited to safety, civility, information
security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability
to contribute to a positive university experience for each and
every student and assist in achieving the university’s commitment
to a “vision of excellence.”

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher
education required.

Extensive coaching or equivalent experience in Men’s or Women’s
Basketball at the collegiate level that demonstrates advanced
technical knowledge of the sport and the ability to lead a
competitive Division I program required.

Must be available to work nights/weekends and travel
often.

Licenses / Certificates

CA Driver’s License required

Certification in CPR/First Aid preferred.

Professional development certifications, completion of relevant
coaching education programs preferred.
