Summary:

Watertown High School seeks an exceptional Head Football Coach for our Boys’ Football Program. Candidates should be motivated and have a positive attitude toward the team, coaches, and other athletic department staff. The coach will emphasize the importance of team culture in fostering social, emotional, and physical growth & development, and in supporting the student-athlete’s overall character development. An emphasis is placed on continuous improvement, teamwork, diversity, sportsmanship, pride, work ethic, and on creating a positive and safe experience for all student-athletes. The coach will work with our student-athletes to teach the fundamentals of football and the concept of being part of a team while fostering physical fitness and skill development.

Team Responsibilities:

Ensure that all athletic activities conform to MIAA guidelines, including:

Eligibility based on training rules, lettering procedures, grade requirements, and rules of behavior

Create a safe environment for students in the locker room, on the field, and at all team events
Effectively motivate students to perform through positive coaching strategies
Develop and equitably enforce team rules while clearly communicating them to players and families
Coordinate and supervise high school football programs as well as individual teams
Design a training program and a game program
Organize and manage the coaching staff to ensure correct program implementation
Help students achieve gains in athletic skills and team performance
Train assistant coaches in techniques, skills, philosophy, rules, and strategies
Ensure the continual supervision of student-athletes
Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities

Administrative Requirements:

Submit a complete team roster to the Athletic Director ten days before the first contest.
Ensure proper purchasing, inventory, and care of equipment
Create game and practice schedules
Coordinate team transportation
Consistently hold meetings with coaches throughout the season
Report all significant injuries incurred during practice sessions or competitions to the Athletic Director and Principal
Ensure all physical evaluation and permission forms are correctly completed and filed
Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community organizations
React productively to any changes
Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director, Principal, or other Administrative Staff

Required Qualifications and Skills:

High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
CPR certification
Strong knowledge of scouting, player development, game management, and effective practice regimens
Prolonged sitting or standing
Ability to occasionally perform physical tasks, such as moving, lifting, carrying, pulling, or pushing heavy objects and materials
Ability to occasionally stoop, bend, and reach
Some travel
Work in noisy and crowded environments

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

Experience with a language other than English (Spanish or Portuguese preferred)
