Middle School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach 2026/2027

The Hemphill Middle School Head Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and developing the middle school girls basketball program in a way that promotes student growth, sportsmanship, teamwork, and school pride. The coach will provide leadership, organization, and instruction to student-athletes while supporting the academic mission of the school and modeling positive character and leadership.
Requirements:
- Experienced understanding of basketball and has participated in basketball.
- Experience working with middle school or youth athletes preferred.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and resolve conflict with students, parents, and community groups.
- Ability to provide leadership and act with professionalism and integrity with school staff, students, parents, and community groups.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
- Commitment to the educational mission and values of the school.
- Must meet district coaching requirements including background check and coaching certifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct toward students, officials, and spectators.
- Organize and oversee all aspects of the Hemphill Middle School girls basketball program.
- Develop and implement a program philosophy focused on skill development, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.
- Provide leadership and direction to assistant coaches.
- Promote a positive culture that reflects the values of the school and community.
- Work collaboratively with the high school girls basketball head coach to align program expectations, terminology, and fundamental skill development in order to support a smooth transition for student-athletes into the high school program.
- Support vertical program development by reinforcing foundational skills, basketball IQ, and team concepts that prepare athletes for future participation at the high school level.
