Experience
Classroom teacher: Currently Teach Advanced Placement (AP) Statistics and Personal Finance. Prior classes taught include Trigonometry/PreCalculus, Algebra I, Algebra Basics, Algebra II, Algebra II Honors, and AIMS Mathematics (remedial). In the past, I also taught BOOST, an intervention program for students who are struggling academically. Responsibilities include classroom instruction, student interaction and intervention, maintenance of student records, lesson planning and curriculum development, parent communication, and serving on school and student-centered committees or teams as needed. I have experience with a wide range of students, from honors to those who have academic challenges and need extra help, mentoring, or tutoring. In 2016 – 17, my first year as an AP Statistics teacher, I took a program which had been passing students at 33% below the national average and turned it around, exceeding the national average in passing scores for the 2017 administration of the AP Statistics Exam.
Responsible for all aspects of girls basketball program, including hiring of Freshman, JV, and assistant coaches, tryouts and player selection, development of offenses and defenses, practice and game planning and coaching, off-season programs including camps, Summer leagues and tournaments, strength and conditioning, fund raising, budgeting, discipline, communication with parents, liaison with school administration.
In ten seasons, I took a team which was 7 – 13 in the year prior to my hire and compiled a 230 – 102 record through the 2017-18 season, won four Holiday tournaments, and have been in the State Tournament nine years out of 11. In 2011-12, had a 24 – 6 record, including a 15-game winning streak, won the Lady Titan Winter Hoops Classic, and made it to the second round of the State Tournament before losing to eventual champion Seton Catholic by five points. We improved upon that in 2012-13, with a 26 – 7 record, and again made it to the second round of the state tournament, despite losing 70% of our scoring from the prior season to graduation. After an 18 – 11 campaign in 2013-14, barely missing the playoffs, we bounced back with a 22 – 9 record in 2014-15, made our sectional tournament, and made it to the second round of the state tournament. In 2015-16, starting four sophomores, Arcadia posted a 23 – 8 record, and made it to the state quarterfinals. In 2016-17, Arcadia went 26 – 3, with a 14-game winning streak, won the Lady Titan Winter Hoops Classic, and made it to the state quarterfinals. This past season, Arcadia was 26 – 4, won the Lady Titan Winter Hoops Classic, and lost to the eventual state champion in the state semifinals.
I am also responsible for a 24-team tournament, the Lady Titan Winter Hoops Classic, which is hosted by Arcadia High School in December, and is one of the largest high school tournaments in Arizona. It is one of the program’s primary fundraising activities, along with the annual Free-Throw-A-Thon and the sale of sponsorships.
I was named Region Coach Of the Year for 2016-17.
Have Coached and Assisted at all levels from 10u through 17u/Open. Responsibilities include game-time coaching, development of offenses, defenses, practice planning, game planning, scouting, recruiting, tryouts and player selection, discipline issues, parental (and player) communications, team administration, club financing, budgeting, and fund-raising. In 18 years, the Phoenix Phenoms have helped over 80 players move on to play at the college level, and three of them have gone on to play professionally. I have a great deal of experience building teams in which we have to meld players with various skills and deficiencies into a functional team which plays better than the sum of its parts. I have also had to find funding sources for players who cannot otherwise afford the experience of club basketball.
