Description
As an Assistant Swim Coach, you play a pivotal role in fostering a culture of safety, growth, and excellence within the swimming program. By ensuring the health and welfare of all individuals in the pool area and adhering to YMCA regulations, you create an environment where swimmers can thrive. Your involvement in organizing training sessions and attending swim meets not only enhances team performance but also instills a sense of camaraderie and achievement.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure the wellbeing of all individuals within the pool vicinity.
- Aid in the coordination and management of team training and practice sessions.
- Attend swim meets and related team events as agreed upon with the supervisor.
- Be present on the deck at least 5 minutes before class begins and be prepared to commence the session on time.
- Arrange for a replacement if unable to conduct a scheduled class, and provide lesson plans for substitutes.
- Be familiar with lesson plans, maintain records and reports for classes, including participant evaluations, team rosters, attendance tracking, and registration procedures.
- Promote member and parental involvement and identify potential volunteers.
- Engage with participants, parents, or guardians to discuss the progress of class participants.
- Provide information about aquatic programs and schedules and refer members and participants to other relevant programs when appropriate.
Education & Experience:
- Must be a minimum of 16 years of age upon date of hire.
- Must have previous 1-2 years coaching experience and/or prior participation in swim team.
- Must have basic aquatic skill, including knowledge of swim strokes, coaching techniques and water safety.
- Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.
- YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certifications preferred.
- Completion of the YMCA Child Abuse Prevention Training once employed.
- Experiences in working with school age children in group settings, teaching swim lessons, and coaching
