Description
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor II, Senior Recreation Coordinator, and Head Swim Coach, teach lessons, American Red Cross progressions, and/or assists in directing and supervising a recreational level competitive swimming program for youth ages 4 to 18 years old; organizes swimmers and instructs in skills and techniques, stressing an atmosphere of fun and maximum participation within agency and league philosophies; maintains all required paperwork; and follows rules set forth by the Cordova Aquatic Program; and performs related work as required.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in supervising the recreational level competitive swimming program; organize swimmers and instruct in skills and techniques; motivate and encourage all swimmers; collaborate with coaching staff to ensure goals for team are being met.
- Teach lessons and American Red Cross progressions as necessary.
- Ensure efficient and effective supervision of the pool and facility during respective team workout period.
- Set-up and take down required equipment for practices and swim meets; prepare entries for meets, with maximum participation as the primary consideration.
- Maintain discipline and control during workouts and at meets, through the enforcement of the pool rules.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; render first aid and CPR as required.
Qualifications:
- Two summers experience with similar programs, preferably as an experienced swimmer or as an assistant coach.
- Required to hold current certification in Lifeguard Training (which includes Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED).
