Description
The purpose of the Assistant Track & Field/Cross Country Coaching position is to assist the head coach in the overall operation of the intercollegiate track & field/cross country team in accordance with Northern Kentucky University (NKU), and National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations. The coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing competitive NCAA Division I track & field / cross country program that emphasizes the educational welfare of its student-athletes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach in recruiting student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations using letters, telephone calls, personal visits, reviewing video tapes, and attending high school, junior college and club and league meets.
- Organize the recruiting schedule for the track & field / cross country staff.
- Counsel and assist student-athletes in completing their academic degree at NKU. Assist in monitoring the track & field / cross country study table.
- Ensure health and safety of student-athletes.
- Assist the head coach in planning and implementing practice sessions.
- Assist during games with strategies, suggestions, and personnel adjustments. Assist in video breakdown & scouting.
- Assist the head coach in planning and preparing team for home and away contests.
- Assist the head coach with the planning and implementation of summer camps.
- Assist the head coach in promoting and performing fund raising activities.
Qualifications:
- Good organizational skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. Displays leadership skills and uses tact.
- Motivated, display integrity and professionalism. Loyal and uses fairness and equitable in the treatment of others.
- Displays public relations skills and promotes Northern Kentucky University Track & Field/Cross Country Program.
- Minimum five years of related coaching experience. Strong consideration will be given to previous playing experiences and Division I coaching.
