Description
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for effective management which entails decision-making that requires discretion and a significant degree of independent judgment.
- Coach must develop and maintain a schedule that will allow the team to prepare and compete successfully.
- Requires significant influence and communication with the Athletic Director and school Principal.
- Plan, organize, and manage all in-season and approved out-of-season workouts for high school athletes.
- Promote sportsmanlike behavior at all times and oversees conduct and discipline of the team.
- Inventory, manage, and update equipment, and assist with the management of all game and practice facilities utilized by the team and department.
- Select, supervise, teach, and evaluate all assistant coach staff including volunteer coaches and managers Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
- Knowledge of MIAA rules – This position shall have a strong working knowledge and understanding of all MIAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
- Academic Monitoring – The ability to establish and monitor an academic system that ensures academic success for the student-athlete.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience coaching wrestling at the high school level or collegiate/professional sports background and experience or equivalent experiences deemed by the administration.
- Have a strong working knowledge and understanding of all MIAA rules and regulations regarding compliance issues.
- Teach and set expectations of appropriate team conduct during competition, travel, practice and Athletic contests event, and at any other times when the team is representing New Bedford Public Schools.
- Create an environment through instruction and modeling for student-athletes to observe and learn integrity, camaraderie, and respect in order to provide a positive environment for all student-athletes.
- Be a resource to student-athletes navigating the balance of academic and athletic demands appropriately
