Description
This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student-athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follows and maintains knowledge of all school and VHSL policies and procedures.
- Instructs and teaches skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement.
- Plans and sets up activities, practices, and meets.
- Ensure a certified coach is present at all practices and meets.
- Develops appropriate training programs and practice schedules.
- Ensures that proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms and updated inventories are adhered to.
- Coordinate with the Activities Director to arrange game transportation for athletic participants.
- Coordinate with the Activities Director to arrange hotel room reservations for all overnight events except District and State competitions.
- Travels with student-athletes, or assigns a School designee to travel, on the team bus both to and from games.
- Adheres to all financial policies of the school and the VHSL regarding the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
Qualifications:
- Some experience as a head coach at the high school or college level is preferred.
- Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
- Must possess some knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
