Description
The Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach fulfills the mission of St. Joseph Catholic School by developing, collaborating, and administering the program in a way that adequately prepares our student-athletes for the highest level of interscholastic competition, and beyond. The Head Coach plans and runs practices, collaborates with all assisting personnel, communicates effectively with parents and staff, and fosters relationships beyond just the Varsity team, such as with the Junior High, who are the next generation of SJCS athletes.
Essential Duties:
- Supports and upholds the philosophy and the mission of the Catholic Church.
- Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct, and policies and procedures, of St. Joseph Catholic School and the Diocese of Austin.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters.
- Models professional conduct and sensible sportsmanship, while instilling these characteristics within team members.
- Conducts practice sessions and games according to local diocesan policy and league regulations.
- Schedules practices and games in consultation with the Athletic Director.
- Verifies student eligibility to practice and participate by proper completion of TAPPS Management System (TMS) Profiles.
- Monitors the physical fitness and readiness of participants, and reports injuries to parents and school officials in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Continually monitors and supervises all teams members at home and on the road.
- Teaches essential safety skills and strategies to student-athletes.
Qualifications:
- HS Diploma or GED (preferably a Bachelor’s degree).
- Current CPR / First Aid certification.
- Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) compliant.
- 5+ years coaching experience (preferably at the high school level or above).
