Description
The purpose of the Assistant Track & Field/Cross Country Coaching position is to assist the head coach in the overall operation of the intercollegiate track & field/cross country team in accordance with Northern Kentucky University (NKU), and National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) regulations. The coach must have a commitment to the philosophy of providing competitive NCAA Division I track & field / cross country program that emphasizes the educational welfare of its student-athletes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist the head coach in recruiting student-athletes in accordance with NCAA regulations using letters, telephone calls, personal visits, reviewing video tapes, and attending high school, junior college and club and league meets. Organize the recruiting schedule for the track & field / cross country staff.
- Counsel and assist student-athletes in completing their academic degree at NKU.
- Assist in monitoring the track & field / cross country study table.
- Ensure health and safety of student-athletes.
- Assist the head coach in planning and implementing practice sessions.
- Assist during games with strategies, suggestions, and personnel adjustments.
- Assist in video breakdown & scouting.
- Assist the head coach in planning and preparing team for home and away contests.
Qualifications:
- Good organizational skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills. Displays leadership skills and uses tact.
- Motivated, display integrity and professionalism. Loyal and uses fairness and equitable in the treatment of others.
- Displays public relations skills and promotes Northern Kentucky University Track & Field/Cross Country Program.
- Minimum five years of related coaching experience. Strong consideration will be given to previous playing experiences and Division I coaching.
